About us

Lightning Reach is the only platform that helps people quickly access grants, support with bills and benefits through a single, simple platform - laying the foundations for lasting financial stability.

Our technology provides the infrastructure organisations rely on to deliver support faster, reduce admin and increase impact at scale. Since launch, more than 300,000 people have unlocked over £25 million in financial support, with over 100,000 people accessing help each year.

About the Role

We are looking for an Analytics Engineer to develop and maintain the data models and reporting infrastructure used for analytics at Lightning Reach.

Data from our application databases is streamed into BigQuery. You’ll turn that raw data into a scalable, well-structured analytics foundation - defining how data is modelled, organised, and used across the company.

This is a high-ownership role with the opportunity to build the data model from the ground up and set the standard for how we use data to measure performance and impact.

You'll also own our reporting environment, ensuring data is reliable, accessible, and useful for both internal teams and external stakeholders - working closely with engineering, product, and operations to make that happen.

Responsibilities

  • Design and maintain the analytics data model in BigQuery

  • Develop and maintain data transformations that convert raw application data into structured analytics datasets

  • Define shared metrics and reporting datasets

  • Ensure data quality, documentation, and efficient query performance

  • Manage datasets and dashboards in Apache Superset for internal and customer-facing reporting

  • Perform analysis to support product, operational, and impact reporting

  • Work with engineering and other teams to understand data structures and reporting needs

Requirements

  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with modern data warehouses (BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, or similar)

  • Experience designing analytics data models and reporting layers

  • Experience building dashboards and data visualisations

  • Experience with BI tools such as Superset, Looker, Tableau, or Metabase

  • Experience managing data transformations using dbt, Dataform, or similar frameworks

  • Ability to structure and analyse data to answer business questions

  • Clear communication and collaboration skills

  • Comfortable working in a small team environment

Technology stack

  • Google Cloud Platform

  • BigQuery

  • Cloud SQL / PostgreSQL

  • Apache Superset

Nice to have

  • Experience building customer-facing or embedded analytics

  • Familiarity with SaaS or product analytics data models

  • Experience managing BI environments or data governance

  • Background in fintech, non-profit, or public sector environments
