Lucy was signposted to the Lightning Reach portal by TSB and received:
£1,000 in grants from a national teaching charity to help with food, essential items, furniture, and appliances
Energy vouchers and heated blankets from the National Energy Foundation
“Things have just been really tough. Sometimes, you feel judged, and it’s hard to admit you need help. It’s just amazing to know that this kind of support is available.”
Lucy, a single mum of three, recently shared that even though she works full-time to support her family, covering everyday expenses often feels like a constant struggle. She also manages all the everyday costs of running the household, getting some help from Universal Credit and Child Benefit to cover essentials like rent and bills. However, rising living costs have made things harder, and Lucy found herself struggling to manage the increasing bills.
“I still work a lot. I’m a single mum, so I’ve still got to pay the rent and bills. I have been struggling as it's been really tight financially.”
Finding easy access to energy and household support
To cope with the financial challenges, Lucy began looking for extra help for her family and was signposted to Lightning Reach through the TSB banking app.
Through Lightning Reach, Lucy applied to a national teaching charity and the National Energy Foundation. Lucy received £1,000 in grants from a national teaching charity, helping cover essential costs like food, furniture, and appliances. On top of that, the National Energy Foundation sent Lucy energy vouchers and heated blankets to help them stay warm during the colder months.
Being able to find support online, in her own time and without anyone judging, gave her a sense of control and relief during a really stressful period. She described it as a “good experience all round.”
“I just felt comfortable and didn’t feel judged by anybody. It was just really nice and straightforward.”
The impact of financial support for single parents
For Lucy, the support she received lifted a huge weight off her shoulders during a difficult time. As a single parent, the financial support towards her energy costs and essential household items allowed her to focus on her family instead of constantly worrying about the next bill. The experience showed her that help is out there and that asking for it doesn’t have to be stressful or judgmental. Knowing she can return to the platform whenever she needs support gives her real peace of mind and confidence for the future.
“Lightning Reach is great. It was great for finding help for my family and me. It just made me feel more supported.”

Yesterday my coworker was talking about how expensive everything has become lately, so he decided to split a large purchase into monthly payments instead of paying all at once. At first the setup looked simple, but later he became confused about payment dates and account notifications showing up in his email. He spent most of the evening checking statements before finally searching for affirm customer service because he wanted to make sure he understood the billing schedule correctly.
Lucy’s story really shows how a little help can make a big difference for families. Once the basics are covered, planning home projects like a new roof gets easier—especially with a handy roofing calculato to figure out materials.
There’s something satisfying about how Drift Boss gradually increases difficulty. You don’t notice it at first, but suddenly every turn feels like a challenge.
What I like most about Drive Mad is how it punishes rushing. You really have to slow down, observe, and adjust your timing, especially on those uneven platforms.
What I love about the Block Blast website is the constant stream of new games, especially puzzle games.
