Symone’s story: a fast response to her energy support needs

Symone, a Lambeth borough resident, recently spoke to us about her experience of finding support. After moving to a new home in Lambeth, Symone found it difficult to manage as her new home was “an old building and would get cold very quickly”. The house lost heat quickly, and her child’s bedroom was especially cold and uncomfortable.


“When I switched the heating off, it’d be warm for about half an hour, and then it will just go cold again.”


Fast access to energy advice and support

Symone came across Lightning Reach in a Lambeth Council newsletter. She had been signposted to other services before, but found that Lightning Reach was the only one that was “active” and worked.


“I decided to try Lightning Reach and read up on the support matches. All the help I’ve received so far is very helpful.”


Through the portal, Symone was matched with support from SHINE from Islington Council, and the response was quick. She was contacted by them within 3 minutes, with an appointment booked for the next 48 hours. During the visit, the Energy Doctor installed £250 worth of energy-saving measures, including radiator reflectors and energy-efficient lightbulbs. They also showed Symone how to fit the reflectors herself, so she could make changes around her home with confidence. She was also given practical advice on managing her energy use while on a pay-as-you-go meter, helping her feel more in control of her bills.


A warmer home and lower energy use

The fast energy support she received have made a noticeable impact on Symone’s everyday life. She now uses less heating, helping to lower her energy costs. She’s also learned to better manage her energy use, giving her more confidence and control over her bills.  Because of the changes, the house now stays warmer longer, making it more comfortable, especially for her daughter. 


“Now it keeps the house warm for maybe about 2 or 3 hours. I walked into her room the other day, and thought 'Oh! It's nice in here!'”


After such a positive experience, Symone has already recommended Lightning Reach to friends and family in similar situations.
