Kayleigh was finding it difficult to manage rising household costs while receiving Universal Credit. After needing to replace essential items, including a washing machine and bedroom carpets, her finances became increasingly stretched. Losing access to the Warm Home Discount after changing energy suppliers added further pressure.
After discovering Lightning Reach through Sunderland City Council, Kayleigh was matched with support from the National Energy Foundation. She received three energy vouchers worth £140, helping to ease the cost of gas and electricity.
With less money going towards energy bills, Kayleigh was able to put more of her budget towards food and other essentials, easing some of the pressure on her household finances. The experience showed her that help is available, and she now encourages others who are struggling financially to explore the support on offer.
"It helped a lot! Because we saved on the gas and electricity, it meant we could get a bit more shopping in."
