Kyra was struggling to manage household bills while caring for her two children, including a child with mobility needs. Unable to work due to her caring responsibilities and mental health challenges, she found herself falling behind on payments and accumulating more than £5,000 of energy debt.
After being signposted to Lightning Reach by both OVO and her housing association, Clarion, Kyra was matched with support through the platform. She received a £1,100 grant from the National Zakat Foundation to help reduce her energy debt, alongside a range of energy-saving items from OVO and the National Energy Foundation.
The grant helped reduce financial pressure, while the energy-saving measures cut her monthly energy bills by around half, making day-to-day costs more manageable. She was also able to buy wardrobes for her children, creating a safer and more organised home and giving her greater stability and peace of mind.
"Before I had the help, my bills were about £170 a month. They've now dropped down to about £85."
